What is the Purpose of Portal and App ?

Maharashtra Dial 112 App and Citizen Portal are the official app and portal of 112 Project of Maharashtra Police. What should I do if I accidentally dial 112 ?

If you dial 112 by mistake, or if a child in your home dials 112 when no emergency exists, do not hang up – that could make 112 officials think that an emergency exists, and possibly send responders to your location. Instead, simply explain to the call-taker that you dialled by mistake.

What Should I tell the Call taker ?

Let the 112 call taker ask the questions

Call takers are trained to gather information as quickly as possible to understand the situation and decide how to help:

    • Let them lead the conversation and answer their questions.
    • The questions may seem unrelated or repetitive, but this is to help clarify the information.
    • Call takers are trained to remain calm and unemotional; this is just to get your information as quickly as possible.

Stay as calm as you can

    • Remain calm and patient.
Take a deep breath before speaking. Time seems to slow down when you are in an emergency. Your cooperation is essential to quickly getting help started
    • Briefly state the nature of the call.
"I need to report a crime...." Or "I need to report a terrorist attack in the city".

Be prepared to answer the following questions

    • WHERE the incident occurred?
    • WHAT happened?
    • WHEN did this occur? Is the event still in progress?

Try to describe the location of the emergency

    • An exact street address is best. Look at numbers posted on buildings around you. View the street signs, look around to provide more information on the location.
    • If you are driving, be aware of the road or highway on which you are traveling. Look for landmarks or businesses that are near to your location.
    • It is a very good idea to post your address and phone number near your telephone. In an emergency situation is it easy to forget the most basic of information.

Stay on the line if you can

    • Stay on the line until the 112 call taker tells you they have all the information they need. In some instances, they will ask if you can stay on the phone with them until officers arrive. This is to gather additional information if the situation changes before officers arrive.
    • If it is not safe for you to stay on the phone, let the call taker know this immediately.

If you misdial - don't hang up

    • If you misdial and accidentally call 112, DO NOT hang up! Wait until your call is answered and explain that you misdialled.

    Teach your children about 112

    • Teach your children about what 112 is and when it is okay to call 112.
    • Let them know that playing with the phone and calling 1-1-2 is a bad idea because it may cause the line to be tied up and someone who is really in trouble may not get help as quickly.

    When Should I Call 112 ?

    When should I call 112?

    • When you have a Police, Fire or Medical emergency.
    • There is a situation that could, or does, pose a danger to life, property or both.
    • There is a suspicious activity involving a person(s) or vehicle that appears to have criminal intent.
    • Any situation that requires immediate dispatch of an officer.
    • To report a serious crime, such as robbery, domestic violence or sexual assault.

Remain calm and patient while the 112 call taker asks you questions. 112 calltakers are trained to ask specific questions that quickly determine what is wrong, and what type of assistance to send.

Please stay on the line until the call taker tells you to hang up.

When should I call the non-emergency number?

    The non-emergency number is ------------

    • You want to report a nuisance, such as a noise or parking complaint.
    • To report a non-emergency crime - one that did not just occur, and the suspects are not in the immediate area.
    • You have questions about something suspicious occurring in your neighbourhood, and you are not sure it is criminal activity.

The call taker will determine how best to handle your call. In some instances your report may be processed over the phone or you will be referred to lodge a police complaint at the station to provide more details.

    Area Wide Emergencies

    • In the case of an area-wide emergency, do not use your telephone for the first few hours following the event unless you have a life-threatening emergency and need to call 112.
    • If you must reach friends or family, call or text an out-of-area contact.
    • In an area-wide emergency, such as an earthquake, the best way to help yourself and your loved ones is to be prepared by having a plan in place and a kit prepared. Tuning into radio/Internet is the best way to get information about the emergency.

Why register on Portal and App?

If you are registered with 112, in a case of an emergency, the information already available will help the Police reach you faster. We will also attempt to improve our services for women and senior citizens and provide customized services.

    Track Complaints

Citizen can track the status of complaint registered at 112 via Phone call/ SMS /Web Chat by providing the Complaint Number and Mobile Number given at the time of registering the complaint. An OTP will be sent to a registered mobile number to verify it.

safety tips on keeping your child out of harm’s way?

    • Hopefully your child will never find themselves in an emergency. However, in the unfortunate event that they do, it is important for them to know how to ask for help. Just to be safe, lets explore Dial 112 practice for children

    • By knowing who to approach and being able to provide that person with helpful information, your child can help to improve the situation all on their own.

    • It is a good idea to practice these safety skills with them so that they are prepared if they ever find themselves needing help. Today, let’s go over some ways to arm your children with the information they need to stay safe.

    • By providing your child with instructions on what to do in case of emergency, you are helping them to be prepared if they are lost or in danger. The very first step should be ensuring that your child understands what Dial 112 is and how it can help in an emergency.

    • Always refer to this number as "one-one-two" instead of "eleven-two." A child who doesn’t know any better may look for an "11" button on the phone.

    • Children should know that Dial 112 is a number that they can call if there is a serious emergency and they need help. They should also understand that using this number as a prank is unacceptable and can delay getting help to someone who truly needs it. You should stress that this number is only to be used in emergency situations. With that in mind, they will need to understand what constitutes an emergency.

    • Make sure your house number is clearly visible from the street so that police, fire, or ambulance workers can easily locate your address.

    • If you live in an apartment building, make sure your child knows the apartment number and floor you live on.

    • Keep a list of emergency phone numbers handy near each phone for your kids or babysitter.

    • Keep a first-aid kit handy and make sure your kids and babysitters know where to find it. When kids are old enough, teach them basic first aid.

What to do in first few critical hours after a child goes missing?

Immediately Dial 112 and report us about the incident. Keep details likes Name, Age, Appearance, Location and other details of your child ready while reporting the incident.
